Symptoms

Problems Upgrading SL8500 Code Direct Attached.
Several sites have reported issues upgrading SL8500 Library Controller Code and  SLC (StreamLine Library Console) Code while being directly attached to port 2B on the HBC card.
Code load begins and then stops; the Ethernet LED stops flashing, the connect status turns yellow and then turns red.

Cause

The root cause was drivers on the remote PC.

Solution

Steps to Follow
It is recommended if a direct attach code upgrade is needed via a cross-over cable the IP connection speed be changed to 10Mb Half-Duplex to help stabilize the connection.

Recommended setup for PC's directly attached to port 2B via crossover cable:

Example configuration change with Windows XP Professional.

- Start
- Control Panel
- Network Connections
- Local Area Connections
- Configure network controller card; e.g. BroadCom 570x Gigabit Integrated Controller #2
- Advance Tab
- In properties window select "Speed & Duplex"
- Set Value to 10Mb Half

Another solution was reported by temporarily installing an IP switch between port 2B and the remote PC.
