Resolution
To allow newly created LUN to be discovered and added dynamically on the SE9900 (9910/9960) and SE9900V (9970V/9980V) , the following requirements need to be fulfilled:

1. Sun badged Qlogic and JNI HBA - refer to SE9900/SE9900V WWWW
(What Works With What)support matrix and Sun HBA Support Matrix.
2. For SE9900V, the microcode must be 21-06-22 or above. For SE9900, the
microcode must be 01-19-41 or above.
3. Sun SAN release 4.3 or above.
4. On SE9900V ONLY:
HDS System Mode 249 MUST be manually turned ON. When the HDS
System Mode 249 is turned on, the SCSI "UnitAttention" is reported
back to the HBA when a new LUN is added. The System Mode 249 default
value is off. It was the major reason why several bugs related to the
failure of the LUN addition and dynamic discovery on SE9900V were
reported in the past.
This mode can be set remotely via dial-in access or by a field engineer
when remote access is not available.
System Mode 249 is NOT valid on SE9900.
On SE9990 (TagmaStore USP), there are additional parameters, or host mode options that can be set to a unique customer operating requirements.
At installation, the SE9990 mode options are set to their default values(OFF).
One of the host mode option is for automatic device discovery when adding Luns.
Host mode option "7" must be turn ON to apply the automatic device discovery.
This Host mode option will affect only ports which have an host mode "09"
(Solaris[TM] host mode) set.
Apply this host mode option for Sun Storedge SAN Fondation Software Version
4.3 or later. It makes the host to recognize the increase and decrease
of the devices automatically when a Sun generic HBA is connected.

Symptoms
When adding new luns to an existing host configuration from a StorageTek 9900/9900V/9990 (SE99x0), the newly added luns could not be detected.

There have been few bugs internally submitted about the failure of adding new LUNs under Sun StorageTek 9900 (SE990)/SE9900V without the requirement of system reboot or additional manual commands involved like "luxadm -e port" and "luxadm -e forcelip" without reboot. This RDB (relational database management) describes the requirements for the dynamic new LUN discovery and addition on SE99xx.
