Symptoms

I can't find the LOM packages.

I have just installed Solaris[TM] 8, 9, or 10 Entire distribution and I cannot find LOM packages. None of the lom commands work or exist.

Cause

The LOM packages must be downloaded and installed before the commands can be utilized.  To do so, follow these instructions:

Downloading the LOM packages.

The Lights Out Management (LOM) packages are not part of Solaris' Entire distribution. LOM packages are located on the Solaris Software Supplement CD or are downloadable from My Oracle Support (MOS).

The three LOM packages needed on a Sun Fire[TM] entry-level midrange system are:
  • SUNWlomu (LOMlite Utilities (usr))
  • SUNWlomm (LOMlite manual pages)
  • SUNWlomr (LOM drivers).
You may download these packages from MOS via <Patch:10368826> which is called the "Netra t Lights Out Management 2.0" release.

Note: The latest patch for these packages is available via 110208-22.  It is strongly advised that you obtain the latest versions of patches and install them on your Sun Fire[TM] E2900, V1280, netra 1280, and netra 1290 to make use of the latest LOM utility updates.

Solution

There are two steps to LOM installation first install the LOM drivers and then the LOM utility:

STEP 1:  Installing the LOM Drivers

As root, type:
# pkgadd -d . SUNWlomr
Processing package instance from LOMlite driver (root) (sparc) 2.0,REV=2000.08.22.14.14 Copyright 2000 Sun Microsystems, Inc. All rights reserved. ## Executing checkinstall script. NOTE: The WARNING messages concerning lomp, lomv and lom driver attachment seen during the installation of the SUWNlomr package can be safely ignored since the SUNWlomr package is not used on the Sun Fire entry-level midrange systems system. However, the presence of the package is required to allow successful upgrade via future patches.

STEP 2:  Install the LOM Utility
As root from the download directory  type:
