Symptoms
A PSH diagnosis message appears on the console with the MSG-ID FMD-8000-11 (The Solaris[TM] Fault Manager unable to determine message summary).

The action recommended in the message: Run pkgchk-n SUNWfmd does not resolve the problem.

Resolution
On the Sun SPARC Enterprise T5120 and T5220, this PSH message may be caused by a known issue with a fault class name (SUNBUG: 6532872).

A fix for this issue is delivered by S10U5 (5/08) and with kernel patches:

  • SunOS 5.10: kernel patch 127127-11,

  • SunOS 5.10_x86: kernel patch 127128-11

Refer to the MOS (Patches & Updates)

Relief/Workaround
The EVENT-ID is highlighted in the example below:
SUNW-MSG-ID: FMD-8000-11, TYPE: Defect, VER: 1, SEVERITY: Minor
EVENT-TIME: Fri Jun 15 00:06:22 EDT 2007

EVENT-ID: e4cb7d73-b795-61d0-a232-ac5e017108ab
DESC: A Solaris Fault Manager component generated a diagnosis for which no message
summary exists. Refer to http://sun.com/msg/FMD-8000-11 for more information.
AUTO-RESPONSE: The diagnosis has been saved in the fault log for examination by Sun.
IMPACT: The fault log will need to be manually examined using fmdump(1M) in order
to determine if any human response is required.
REC-ACTION: Use fmdump -v -u <EVENT-ID> to view the diagnosis result.
Run pkgchk -n SUNWfmd to ensure that fault management software is installed properly.
Cut and paste the EVENT-ID onto the following command:
# fmdump -v -u
EXAMPLE
# fmdump -v -u e4cb7d73-b795-61d0-a232-ac5e017108ab

If the <fault class> is fault.cpu.ultraSPARC-T2.misc_regs then it is a result of the issue caused by CR 6532872 .
The faulty FRU displayed is correct. In the example above, the FRU is the motherboard. Contact Sun support to replace the faulty FRU.
If the <fault class> is not fault.cpu.ultraSPARC-T2.misc_regs then contact Sun support to diagnose the problem.
