Cause

There is a bug (CR 6496629) in early versions of Frame Manager which causes the "Service LED" to stay on.  No hardware failures are reported by the SC and no failures are seen upon physical inspection of the Rack Fan Trays, RTUs, and RTSs.

Solution

Engineering has provided a fix for this issue.  While the service LED can be ignored in this situation, Frame Manager firmware revision 1.2.2 resolves this issue.

The solution is to replace the Frame Manager with one that has this newer version of FM firmware installed.  Customers need to open a Service Request and contact Oracle Technical Support to resolve this issue.  The Frame Manager firmware can not be upgraded in the field, nor can the Frame Manager be replaced without an Oracle Support Services Engineer performing this service.

Field Engineers and Internal Support Personnel:

There is an upgrade process, but it is not suggested to be performed in the field due to the complexity of the procedure.

In order to be sure you obtain the correct version of FM firmware to resolve this issue, contact your FRU stocking location and ask for the specific part number revision of the Frame Manager noted below in bold (or higher revision number):

  • 540-3883-04   (Sun Fire x800 FM)
  • 540-6014-03   (Sun Fire E6900 FM)
  • 540-6741-03   (Sun Fire E6900 FM - ROHS version)
If you can not locate these revisions in your FRU stocking location or have further questions with this advice collaborate with the next level of technical support.
