Symptoms
Installation or booting Solaris [TM] 9 Operating System 9/05 from DVD or CD will fail on E2900/V1280 systems that have a PCI+ IB_SSC IO Assembly installed.
Since no version of Solaris 9 prior to Solaris 9 9/05 supports the PCI+ IB_SSC Assembly, customers cannot install or boot Solaris 9 on systems with the PCI+ IB_SSC Assembly via DVD or CD. see Fab < Document: 1000952.1 > E2900/V1280 systems that have the PCI+ IB_SSC IO Assembly will not be able to install or boot from Solaris 9 9/05 DVD or CD.

Resolution
Instead of creating a JET jumpstart , you can connect a SCSI CD/DVD drive to the rear SCSI-port. Setup a alias for this drive ( e.g. xcdrom )
In OK Prompt, set auto-boot? = false.
This is a alternative solution to what is in FAB < Document: 1000952.1 > E2900/V1280 systems that have the PCI+ IB_SSC IO Assembly will not be able to install or boot from Solaris 9 9/05 DVD or CD.
Poweroff Sytem and external CD/DVD Drive before connecting then SCSI-cable.
After you have physically connected the external CD/DVD Drive to the rear SCSI connector, poweron both system and drive. When back in OK-Prompt create a new alias for this device. (check the SCSI ID selector on the back of CD/DVD - normal set to ID 6!) The rear SCSI port should be /ssm@0,0/pci@18,700000/scsi@2,1.
You can check this with the "probe-scsi-all" command or the "show-disks" command.
"probe-scsi-all" should show you the CD/DVD drive, if not recheck your cabeling!
In OK prompt enter:
OK > nvalias xcdrom /ssm@0,0/pci@18,700000/scsi@2,1/disk@6,0:f
^ SCSI ID of DVD
OK > nvstore
OK > boot xcdrom
Install Solaris 9 9/05 and after completion install patch 112954-15 or later.

Relief/Workaround
Install a external DVD / CD drive to boot from.
