Symptoms
with certain memory dimm failures and low revs of the OpenBoot[TM] Prom (OBP) the Sun Fire[TM] V880 will not boot and no failed memory dimms will be identified by POST or extended diagnostics. The only message seen is when the system tries to boot and fails. The error seen is "Corrected ECC Error" and the system drops back to the OK prompt.

Resolution
When the above conditions occurs there is no way to identified the failed dimms and no way of booting the system, not even from cdrom, except to replace the I/O board with one that has a higher rev OBP. Once the failed dimms has been identified and replaced, the original I/O pcb can be re-installed and the system booted at which time the OBP should be upgraded immediately to avoid future incidents of the same nature.

Additional Information
this problem was observed with OBP 4.10.8
