Symptoms
Sun Fire[TM] V880 system running Solaris[TM] 8 contains warnings in /var/adm/messages similar to the following:

Additionally I needed to apply patch 112169-05
NOTE after applying the suggested patches and workarounds I still got
the errors below until I applied patch 112169-05
Jul 13 15:07:56 v4u-880e platmod: [ID 531893 kern.warning] WARNING: Failed to install "bbc" driver.
Jul 13 15:07:56 v4u-880e platmod: [ID 531893 kern.warning] WARNING: Failed to install "gptwo" driver.

Then installed patch 112169-05
And no more errors

Resolution
Here are the patches needed to prevent these messages.

Solaris 8 sbdp patch 116970-02 or later.
Solaris 8 112169-05 platmod patch for Volume System H/W Series Products

Solaris 9 kernel patch 112233-12 or later.
Solaris 9 116561-13 Volume System H/W Series platmod patch

exclude: gptwo
exclude: sbd

Additional Information
These warning messages are caused by the removal of a driver module
that is no longer used on the Sun Fire V880 platform.
