Symptoms
When upgrading the onboard FCAL firmware on a Sun Fire[TM] 880 and using the command:
# luxadm download -f <firmware_path> <enclosure_name>

Where:

  • <firmware_path> is the location of the firmware image on the system disk -- in this case, /usr/platform/SUNW,Sun-Fire-880/lib/images/int_fcbpl_fw.

  • <en closure_name> is the enclosure name assigned to the Sun Fire 880 internal storage array -- by default, FCloop. If you need to verify the enclosure name first, use the luxadm probe subcommand.

The following error message is encountered:

# luxadm download -f /usr/platform/SUNW,Sun-Fire-880/lib/images/int_fcbpl_fw FCloop
SCSI Error - Sense Byte:(0x2) Check condition
Error: Retry failed. - /usr/platform/SUNW,Sun-Fire-880/lib/images/int_fcbpl_fw.

The above error message is due to the system keyswitch being placed in the Locked position.

Resolution
To rectify this error, please change the keyswitch position to Normal.
