Symptoms
Customer has a Sun StorEdge[TM] 9990 (SE9990) also known as the USP Tagmastore that is connected to an IBM Shark where they are trying to do migration from, but unable to see the array or the LUNs (Logical Units) from UVM (Universal Volume Manager).

Resolution
Ensure that the External LUNs attach to the SE9990 are offline to any hosts attachment.
Existing LUNs that are still connected to Hosts of an external storage (IBM Shark or EMC) and are to be connected to the SE9990 will need to be completely offline to any other hosts. After the discovery of the LUNs by the SE9990, then can the LUNs be made available to the hosts via the USP (Universal Storage Platform) or SE9990.
Points to note:
1) Discovery of switch connected external LUNs that are online to a host is not supported and may cause serious problems.
2) External volumes cannot be online to any host except through the TagmaStore USP interface.

Comment: Hi Weng-Fatt.

Can you please expand on first use all three letter acronyms.

I think LUN (Logical Unit) is one that has been missed.

Also, perhaps just refer to the SE9990 as being also known as the USP Tagmastore the first time the text "SE9990" is used. There are some sentences where it soulds like two completely different units types are being referenced . I.e "SE9990 or USP Tagmastore".

Finally please expand on 1st use the SE from SE9990 to
StorEdge 9990 [TM]

Once these minor changes have been made I will be
pleased to submit this KA for final review.

Ross.

Comment: Created this SRDB base on an escalation from field and found that it should benefit field migration work of external storage to SE9990.
