Symptoms
Those customers who are installing the new 18GB FC drives (Seagate ST118273FC) into their A5X00 and E3500 environments MUST have the latest A5X00 patch set applied if they don't then explicitly errors of the form...

will almost certainly be observed in the console and the /var/adm/messages
file.
Please note the "0x14" element of the error, this is the key element of
the error that makes it clear that this is not likely to be broken hardware
and that this is at the device driver level, i.e. support for the device
being accessed is missing from the driver being used to send I/O to it.

Resolution
Support for the 18GB FC drive is included in the ssd driver patches, although ALL the latest patches as per the Official SSA & A5x00 Software/Firmware Configuration Matrix (Early Notifier 14838) should be installed and not just the ssd patch, the specific ssd patches that include support for the 18GB FC-AL drive (Seagate ST118273FC) are.
