Product
Sun Netra T5440 Server

Date of Resolved Release
12-Aug-2009

T5440 produces unwarranted warning messages (see details below).

Impact

Sun Netra T5440 can produce warning messages when no hardware problem exists.  This issue does not impact system operation in any way.

Contributing Factors

This issue impacts AC powered Netra T5440 systems with firmware 7.1.8.c or 7.2.1.d (or earlier).

Symptoms

The system produces the following warning message when no problem exists;

"V_VCORER at /SYS/MB has exceeded high warning threshold"

This error will show on the Console and in the ILOM Event Log.

Root Cause

VCORE data for ILOM is taken from the adm1026 measurement of the converter output.  Through this method there is an error introduced into the data.  The adm1026 can have approximately 20mV of error, and measuring VOUT versus VSENSE (voltage actually seen by the CPU) introduces another 40+mV of discrepancy depending on the load and IR drop across the board.  These combine to produce enough of an offset to trigger a warning message.

Systems will continue to ship in the short term with firmware 7.1.8.c, but will eventually switch to a version of 7.2.2.x.

Corrective Action

Workaround:

No workaround available - see Resolution section below.

Resolution:

Upgrade firmware to 7.1.8.d or 7.2.2.e (or above).
