Impact

The DVD and/or backplane can be damaged during installation of the DVD.

Contributing Factors

This issue is most likely seen in two different scenarios:

1) Systems built without DVD drives when installing a DVD drive for the first time.
2) When service occurs to replace a defective DVD.

Symptoms

DVD drives don't align with the disk backplane connector during installation of the DVD.

Root Cause

The fit issue is caused by the pressure exerted on the disk backplanes by the HDD's and the Fillers - causing the disk backplane to "bow" at the center. 
 
An ECO is in process to add an alignment block to the back of the DVD assembly.  New X-options and FRU's will be updated with this part as soon as possible.

Corrective Action

Workaround:
 
To remove the pressure from the system disk backplanes, remove the HDD's and fillers before installing the DVD - this will allow the backplane to straighten and provide an accurate alignment of the DVD connector to the backplane. 
 
Resolution:
 
An ECO is in process to add an alignment block to the back of the DVD assembly so that long term the above workaround is not needed. New X-options and FRU's will be updated with this part as soon as possible.

Comments

FAB 265589 supersedes this FAB for the Sun SPARC Enterprise T5120/T5220 and T5140/T5240 platforms.
