Sun StorageTek SL3000 Modular Library System

Date of Resolved Release
15-Aug-2008

World Wide Name (WWN) of drives installed in SL3000 will change with the release of FRS_2.05 firmware (see details below).

Impact

World Wide Name (WWN) of drives installed in SL3000 will change with the release of FRS_2.05 firmware.  This will impact all host and FC Switch configurations involving World Wide Name.

Contributing Factors

The initial release of the SL3000 incorrectly allotted 17 WWN values for the library, rather than the required 16.  This resulted in the Drive WWNs starting at one more than they were supposed to.

Symptoms

Drive WWNs presented to the host by SL3000 will have a value one less than the WWNs presented with earlier release of code.  This will be true for each of the drives port WWNs and the Node WWN.

Root Cause

The initial release of the SL3000 incorrectly allotted 17 WWN values for the library, rather than the required 16.

Corrective Action

Workaround:

No workaround available - see Resolution section below.

Resolution:

The incorrect reporting of the WWN has been corrected in the FRS_2.05 release.  After an SL3000 library is upgraded to FRS_2.05 firmware level, a reconfiguration of the drives from the host and switch perspective WILL BE REQUIRED.
