Date of Resolved Release
30-Jul-2008

Attempt to upgrade LSI RAID Controller to latest firmware fails (see details below).

Affected X-Options:

X4271A
X4272A
X4273A

Affected Parts:

371-1592-12 (or below)   Sun Blade X6220 Motherboard, RoHS:YL

Impact

Attempt to upgrade onboard LSI RAID controller with latest firmware Gem_Ph10_B2.iso fails with error.

Contributing Factors

Sun Blade X6220 Motherboards (Sun p/n 371-1592) using a B1 version of the LSI Raid controller will experience this issue.

Symptoms

Using the Gem_Ph10_B2.iso download to upgrade the onboard 1068E chipset firmware fails with Product ID and Vendor ID do not match error.

Root Cause

Changing from B1 to B2 silicon on the disk controller is the confirmed corrective action that resolves this issue.  This change was implemented in manufacturing in November of 2007 via ECO WO_37712.  This fix was made available in Services via GSAP 4043.

Corrective Action

Target Completion Date:  July 31, 2009

Workaround:

No workaround available - see Resolution section below.

Resolution:

Proactively replace 371-1592-12 (or below) with 371-1592-13 (or above) or, if not available, replace with 540-7612-01 (or above).

Identification of Affected Parts (how to):

Customers and/or Sun personnel have two options to determine if the blade has the B1 version of the LSI Raid controller:

1) Reset the blade, enter the LSI BIOS Configuration Utility (Ctrl-C), then select the HBA.
Select the 3rd option down (Advanced Adapter Properties).
Check the Chip Revision ID : 02=B1, 04=B2

2) Check the part number of the Motherboard: 371-1592-12 (or below) has the B1 controller,
371-1592-13 (and above) has the B2 controller.
