Bug Id
<SUNBUG: 6199474>

Impact

A system restore operation from the flash disk on a Sun StorEdge 6320 system using the Restore CD will fail to complete. This affects all Sun StorEdge 6320 systems running any baseline software version from 1.1 through 1.2.4.  It will be impossible to restore the system without the workaround supplied below.

This issue will only be encountered with a Service Processor FRU replacement, or when the system software is reloaded.  When the system is booted from the Restore CD, the following message is displayed:

   ok boot cdrom - install
<snip>
Do you want to restore local configuration information [y/n]? y
/tmp/install_config/finish.sp: fbr: not found
Local settings not restored due to an error

This issue occurs because the path to the "fbr -r" command on the Restore CD is incorrect.  This will be addressed in a future software release. Until then, please utilize the workaround below.

Resolution

Use the following restore procedure.

1. Remove the flash disk from the back of the Service Processor and connect a serial cable to the service console port of the patch panel to log in to the Service Processor.

Note: If at the "new_sp" prompt, log in as root and issue a "halt" command.

2. Insert the Restore CD (eg. M1.2.4) into the SE6320 system.

3. From the "ok" prompt, issue the "boot cdrom - install" command.

4. The following options are displayed on the screen.

This CD restores your StorEdge 6320 Service Processor back to
the factory defaults it shipped with. All current state will be
wiped clean.
Are you sure you want to do this [y/n]?
Type "y" and press Enter on the keyboard.

5. Next, you will be prompted to answer the following.

Do you want to restore local configuration information [y/n]?

Please type "n" and press Enter.

6. The system will boot up as new_sp.

7. Log in to the SP as the root user.

8. At the "new_sp#" prompt, enter the following commands.

      [new_sp]# EDITOR=vi
[new_sp]# export EDITOR
[new_sp]# stty erase ^H (Note: Backspace should give you the ^H character)
[new_sp]# crontab -e

Note: While editing the file using the "vi" editor, use Control-C instead of the Esc key.

9. Comment out the crontab entry and save the file.

48,50,52,54,56,58 * * * * /opt/SUNWsefbru/bin/fbr -b > /dev/null 2>&1

10. At the new_sp# prompt enter the following command.

[new_sp]# crontab -l

#0,2,4,6,8,10,12,14,16,18,20,22,24,26,28,30,32,34,36,38,40,42,44,46,

48,50,52,54,56,58 * * * * /opt/SUNWsefbru/bin/fbr -b > /dev/null 2>&1

Make sure that the crontab entry is commented out.

11. Insert the flash disk into the upper USB port 0 of the Service Processor.

12. At the "new_SP#" prompt, issue the following command.

      [new_sp]# cd /opt/SUNWsefbru/bin/
[new_sp]# fbr -r -v

13. At the "sp#" prompt, enter the following commands.

      [sp0]# EDITOR=vi
      [sp0]# export EDITOR
[sp0]# stty erase ^H (Note: Backspace should give you the ^H character)
      [sp0]# crontab -l

14. Verify that the "fbr" crontab entry is uncommented.  If not, un-comment it using "crontab -e":

0,2,4,6,8,10,12,14,16,18,20,22,24,26,28,30,32,34,36,38,40,42,44,46,

48,50,52,54,56,58 * * * * /opt/SUNWsefbru/bin/fbr -b > /dev/null 2>&1

Make sure that the crontab entry is not commented.

15. Reboot the SP.  This completes the restore process.
