Impact

The README files in patches prior to 113723-14 for SE3510 and 113724-08 for SE3511 do not caution the user that an SES firmware download is disruptive and will interrupt I/O. The "SES firmware upgrade" section of the README file in patch 113723-14 for SE3510 and 113724-08 for SE3511 states:

SES firmware upgrade will interrupt I/O. To avoid any
possibility of application failures or filesystem corruption,
it is necessary to ensure that no host I/O is permitted while
the SES upgrade is taking place.

This information is not included in prior patches for StorEdge 351x:

113723-11 or earlier for StorEdge 3510
113724-05 or earlier for StorEdge 3511

Workaround

The latest patch README files do contain this caution. See the README files in the following patches:

113723-14 for SE3510
113724-08 for SE3511

Until a fix for CR 6321566 is released, it is recommended that all I/O to the array be stopped, including unmounting of associated file systems on the host when downloading SES firmware.

A fix for CR 6321566 is expected to release in the 2.3 version of the host software (sscs/sscli) - date yet to be determined.
