Bug Id
<SUNBUG: 6498807>

Impact

Common Array Manager (CAM) Versions 5.1.3, and 6.0 both release with Controller firmware revision 06.17.52.10.  For SATA drive feature support, it is required that Controller firmware 06.70.00.1 or later be installed on 25x0 arrays.  Depending on host platform, this firmware can be obtained via resolved patches listed below and currently available.

Please ensure patch firmware is applied offline during a maintenance window when there is no I/O activity to the array.

Contributing Factors

Sun StorageTek 25x0 Arrays with controller firmware earlier than 06.70.00.1 is impacted by this issue.

Basic SATA drive feature support is not included in versions earlier than 06.70.00.1.

Dysfunction of the SATA drives may lead to major issues and data integrity problems (see Symptoms section below).

Symptoms

There are several bugs that are included in the new controller firmware.  See the patch README file for a specific bug list.

Root Cause

Resolution

Install the correct CAM patch and follow instructions in the README file for the correct installation procedures as follows:

For CAM 5.1.3 the following patches are available:

127486-01 Solaris
127487-02 Windows
127488-01 Linux

For CAM 6.0 the following patches are available:

128269-01 Solaris
128270-01 Windows
128271-01 Linux

These patches include:

Controller: 06.70.00.11
NVSRAM: 670843
DISK:        HDS7250SASUN500G.AJ0A
IOM: 183

The correct revision of firmware will be packed with CAM 6.0.1 (or later) which is planned to include the new version from download site in late November or early December 2007.

Important Note: Ensure patch firmware is applied offline during a maintenance window when there is no I/O activity to the array as indicated in the 2500 Release Notes (820-3411-10 pages 10-11).
