Impact

1080 SES firmware is available and supported for Sun StorEdge 3510FC running 3.27R. It is available via point patch 113661-01. 1080 SES firmware addresses the following issues:

6264626 temperature related battery issues at normal environmental conditions
6286138 Primary & secondary RAID controller batteries fault after 4.11 upgrade
6304985 Erronous battery alert messages on 3510FC
6315439 Under certain conditions SES behavior becomes unexpected, including amber LEDs and invalid events

The most critical is bug 6315439, which can render the array into an unpredictable state and difficult to troubleshoot. There have been several requests to make this 1080 SES available for 3.27R, thus the reason for this point patch.

Note the current general patch for the SE3510FC is 113723-14, which contains both: 4.13C + 1080 SES.

Workaround

Should a customer insist on staying at 3.27R and want to have 1080 SES, the Sun account team can decide to download and deliver the point patch to the customer. Note that the Data Management Group still promotes customers to upgrade to 4.x firmware rather then staying at 3.27. There is no more sustaining done on the 3.27 firmware base, and so every attempt should be made to convince the customer to upgrade to 4.x.
