Impact

The existence of this pre-existing software and Microcode on the replacement SVP FRU can exacerbate the defective SVP replacement procedure.

Contributing Factors

Any pre-existing Microcode, Apache, or Java software should be removed from the replacement SVP FRU, received from the HDS Ditribution Centers, before it is used to replace a defective SVP.

Symptoms

Under rare conditions, SVP's received from spares inventory may sometimes have pre-existing Apache, Java, Microcode etc. installed from a previous installation.   SVP's received from the Distribution Centers should only have the Operating System, Internet Explorer, etc installed.

Workaround

Please adhere to the following procedure to remove a Microcode, Apache, or Java softwares from the SVP FRU on the HDS storage array products.

1. Remove SVP main from Start Up Menu.
Go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
Delete SVP_MAIN.exe icon
Delete SVP icon from
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs
Delete SVP icon from Desktop
2. Reboot Laptop.
3. Delete DKC200 directory from C: drive.
To delete the DKC200 sub directory, first delete all sub directories under
DKC200 and then the DKC200 directory.
4. Stop Apache Service.
Start -> Programs -> Apache HTTP Server -> Control Apache Server -> Stop
5. Delete the C:\Perl subdirectory (if it exists).
6. Remove Apache and Java by using Windows Add/Remove Function.
Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs
7. Delete HIHSM Monitor files form D: drive.
8. Ensure that other software products that are normally install at the customer
site such as PCAW & HiTrack are also removed.
Delete C:\HDS from the SVP if present.
9. Reboot the Laptop.
10. Delete everything under the C:\WINNT\temp subdirectory.
11. Run the setup.exe program from the Microcode CD version that
correlates to the Microrode version running on the DKC.
Startup -> Run -> E:\Setup.exe
IMPORTANT NOTE: The Setup program must only be used for the
Microprogram version that will be installed on the SVP.
Follow the instructions from the "SVP Replacement" section of the
maintenance manual.
Please check GSCC PSIM #50 SE9900 - SVP FRU - Update at
	http://se9900.emea/scc/abi/reference50.html
12. Define and setup the information of Apache and other software.
13 . Reboot laptop.
14. Attempt to access from Web Console or Storage Navigator to check the
behavior.

Resolution

If you receive any SVP which contains any of the mentioned software programs, you can return SVP for new replacement. Please report these incidents to SEJSC at;

  http://sejsc.ebay

by escalating issue via PTS storage. We expect this to be rare. If you do encounter this please be prepared to provide the following information:

1. Indicate if this SVP will be returned to the IDC/EDC etc.
2. We will need a reference number (this is located on the bottom
right of the HDS label that the IDC prints) it will be located in
the Reference # area.
3. Date at the top right of the HDS label.
4. SVP serial number.
5. Serial number.
6. If this SVP is returned to the IDC/EDC, the ORIGINAL CARTON & PACKAGING
MATERIAL MUST REMAIN WITH THE DEFECTIVE PART. This is very important.
