Impact

A logical inconsistency was discovered after SM recovery from a SM blockade. This logical inconsistency causes the micro-program to refer to the wrong control information written by the hardware. This causes multiple microprocessors to block and can lead to loss of data availability. The problem may occur when 1) and 2) below, as well as the conditions listed in the Product Affected section are all satisfied.

1) One of the following two conditions is occurring:

a.  I/O is present.

b. TrueCopy (HRC/HORC), ShadowImage (HMRCF/HOMRCF/HIHSM) or Hitachi Universal Replicator (HUR) pairs exist the problem may occur with or without any I/O occurring.

AND

2) One of the following maintenance activities is being performed:

a. Maintenance replacement of SM board or SM DIMM.

b. Addition or de-installation of Shared Memory for all reasons including the addition or de-installation of CU and/or PDEV etc. or the addition or de-installation of the additional SM feature.

c. Addition or de-installation of Cache Memory.

Resolution

To prevent this, install microcode 50-03-37 or 50-03-71 or any version of microcode higher than 50-03-71 prior to any Cache or shared memory maintenance:

If this situation has already been encountered, please escalate to PTS for recovery procedures.
