Impact

Host Group Option 16 is used to specify that OPEN-V device geometry on SE9985/SE9990 should be reported as being identical to OPEN-V device geometry on SE9970/SE9980. 9980/70 reports OPEN-V as 128 Blocks per track while 9990/85 reports 512 blocks per track. Setting host group option 16 ON causes 9990/85 to report 128 blocks per track, instead of 512.

Prior to microcode 50-03-93, it was possible for the customer to set host group option 16 via Storage Navigator. Beginning with microcode 50-03-93, this capability has been removed. The function of host group option 16 is still available, but it can no longer be set or unset by the customer.

Resolution

If a customer needs to enable or disable host group option 16 on a host group, perform the following steps.

1. Enter modify mode on SVP.

2. Select "Install."

3. Select "Change Configuration."

4. Select "Lun Configuration."

5. A Lun Manager window will be displayed. Right-click the host group that needs to be changed, and select "Change Host Group."

6. Select the "Option" button.

7. Select or unselect the check box corresponding to host group option 16.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Since reported OPEN-V device geometry will be changed, any hosts in the affected host group(s) that access OPEN-Vs should be DOWN while the host group option is changed.
