Bug Id
<SUNBUG: 6243241>

Impact

A Solaris 10 domain running on a Sun Fire 12K/15K/20K/25K platform may lose access to PCI adapters on the 7th configured I/O board and all I/O boards beyond.  For example, a domain configured with boards SB2, SB3, IO2, IO4, IO5, IO6, IO8, IO9, IO10 and IO12 will lose access to PCI adapters on IO10 and IO12.  Using Dynamic Reconfiguration (DR) to bring a 7th I/O board into a domain will also manifest the bug.

Symptoms

During domain boot, messages such as the following will be displayed on the console:

   Apr 9 04:12:23 2005 WARNING: (7):sbbc_attach failed to map sbbc_reg
   Apr 9 04:12:23 2005 WARNING: (8):sbbc_attach failed to map sbbc_reg
   Apr 9 04:12:23 2005 WARNING: (9):sbbc_attach failed to map sbbc_reg

If the issue is experienced during a DR operation, the SBBC register mapping failure will be logged to the domain console and the /var/adm/messages file.

Root Cause

The Solaris 10 kernel's PIOMAPSIZE is insufficiently large to satisfy the register mapping requirements of the SBBC driver.  PCI adapters on I/O boards 7 and higher are unable to be mapped into the kernel and become inaccessible.  See bug 6243241 for full details.

Workaround

Resolution

Install Solaris 10 patch 118822-11 (or later) on any affected domain.
