Impact If this issue is encountered, the system may lose the ability to communicate with the newly installed DAT drive or experience other data transmission errors. Contributing Factors The following platforms shipped prior to week 35 of 2007 are impacted: SEEPAAA1Z P/N 602-3464-03 Sun SPARC Enterprise M4000 Server SEEPACA1Z P/N 602-3465-03 Sun SPARC Enterprise M4000 Server SEEPBAA1Z P/N 602-3466-03 Sun SPARC Enterprise M4000 Server SEEPBCA1Z P/N 602-3467-03 Sun SPARC Enterprise M4000 Server SEEPBDA1Z P/N 602-3468-03 Sun SPARC Enterprise M4000 Server ...and impacts the following Part Numbers; 541-0846 DAT72 Tape Drive Assembly, RoHS:Y 541-0845 Disk Backplane Assembly, RoHS:Y F530-3482 FF1, CABLE, IOBP, HDD/DAT Tight tolerances surrounding cable routing and length contributed to this issue. Symptoms Inability for the system to see the tape drive after replacement. Root Cause Engineering chassis design change removed a metal guide which protected the cable from contact with the insertion "plunger". Guide was removed to reduce strain on the ribbon cable, but then allowed the "plunger" to press against a data ribbon cable directly behind the DAT drive, resulting in an increased potential for damage to the cable. Engineering is in the process of redesigning the assembly via ECO# WO_37875, but until that occurs, manufacturing adjusted a ribbon clip to allow more slack for the ribbon cable, which will allow the cable to move if the "plunger" contacts it. This was done via StopShip/Purge P001-20429 as of week 35 of 2007. Resolution Remediation Time Estimate: 10 minutes For affected systems, before inserting either a replacement or new X-Option DAT drive, field engineer should
Identification of Affected Parts (how to): Check serial number of system to verify manufacture date. If serial number falls before week 35 in 2007, execute the procedure in this document. The format of the serial number should be of BCF####00D where #### are year and week of manufacture. If #### is 0734 or less, you are affected by this bulletin and should check the system prior to replacing or installing a DAT drive.
